BEDAugust 4

It's Saturday! Time for me to rant and rave about anything I want. Of course the problem is that I have no idea what to rant or rave about. Seriously, I've tried to start this blog at least ten times tonight and I still can't think of a damned thing I want to rant or rave about. Does this mean I'm just having a mediocre day? Nothing especially bad or good that stands out enough for me to talk about. Work went well tonight, I love the group I close with. I visited briefly with Jill and Meg. Earlier I made a VEDA video and caught up on my HPA emails. Really there's not much else I should be doing. Except making the HPA video shot list...which I just left and did. For you reading this no time has past, but for me it was an almost 20 minute adventure to write something I should have done days ago.

Now, back on track with my rants and raves. I guess I can spend just a little time raving about a project I'm involved in, My Hogwarts. My Hogwarts is basically a virtual social networking platform exclusively for Harry Potter fans. I've been involved with this project almost from the beginning. Keith, the man in charge and Headmaster of My Hogwarts, is a dear friend of mine. He asked me to come on as a Beta staffer, just answering questions and reporting bugs, and I was hooked. I'm now proud to be an official staff member.

My Hogwarts is made up of six main parts, and each of them is a unique way for Harry Potter fans to interact and meet each other. The Library is a collection of fanfiction and fictional textbooks and literary studies that encourage creativity and discussion among the fans. There's a great set of stories to be found and the textbooks inspire all sorts of dialogues, not to mention a potential for fake classes. The Auditorium is a place for fans to watch streams of fanfilms or live streams of Quidditch or Wrock or any other note worthy Potter event. It's also equipped with a chat room allowing everyone to socialize while watching the screen. Wizard Cities is a way to get Potter fans connected with the locals, and expand your fan life from the computer to the real world. You can become a member of the city you live in and from there add events and chat with each other and make new friends. Wrockbox is the streaming Wizard Rock station, which is full of all kinds of incredible music. It's a great way to get to know new Wrock bands, and is always streaming. There's a huge discussion board that allows you to talk with others about any subject you want. This opens up the door for intense academic discussions as well as socializing over common interests. The best part of My Hogwarts for me is that you choose your house and then you're placed in a dorm with other students. It's like real Hogwarts where you may not know these people well, but you're bound to become friends.

Overall My Hogwarts is an incredible site to be a part of. It has it's glitches like anything else, but it's leaps and bounds beyond anything I thought it was going to be. Keith keeps adding new features and there are things like the My Hogwarts Virtual Choir and Chocolate Frog Cards still in the works and on their way out. If you're a Harry Potter fan this site really is something you should look into. I'm so happy with the way everything has turned out and I can't wait to see where it goes. There's an awesome staff behind it and half the fun in my life is hanging with them in our virtual staff room.

Until tomorrow.

June 9th

I spent most of today with Meg, and we had a ton of fun so I feel like today is another day for a list of wonderful things.

Munchkin- The entire point of this game is to destroy monsters and cheat, and I love it. I've never played a bad game of Munchkin. As long as everyone comes in expecting to have a blast, that is what is gonna happen.

Magic the Gathering- I'm just starting to play this card game, but I already like it quite a bit. I play only for fun, and that means no stress, and lots of laughter.

Reorganizing- I don't necessarily like to vacuum or wash things, but I LOVE reorganizing my space. Since we're considering the moving thing, I've been doing a lot of that.

Star Wars- I feel like I've said this before, but another day at Star Wars weekends has solidified this in my brain. Despite my love for Harry Potter, there is still something special and different about everything Star Wars. I think it's just been with me so long that it holds a special place in my heart.

Chocolate- I just ate a chocolate bar, and the plain creamy milk chocolate, is still the best. I don't need anything fancy, the plain chocolate is just fine by me.

Frozen Vegetables- I buy them cheap, they last forever, and I can just throw them in the pot with my Ramen noodles. I'll never claim to eat healthy, but I don't do too bad.

Sharpies- I love sharpies, in all different colors. They draw on anything, and make a great tool for temporary tattoos.

Pokemon- I grew up playing those games, and I still like playing them to blow of steam to this day. Besides, I still haven't managed to catch them all, but someday I will.

Sushi- This is probably my current favorite food, and I would eat sushi for every single meal if I had that kind of money. Instead I settle for eating it about once a month, often less. My favorite sushi roll is salmon tempura rolls, but most places don't have them. Pretty much every single restaurant carries California rolls, and I like those too.

Writing- Despite the fact that sometimes I'm writing these 750 words late at night and without a single idea, I find that I actually enjoy it. I've also found that I feel a lot more like writing fiction, and look forward to my fiction days. Writing is fun for me, and I like to bring out those characters in my head and let them run around a little.

Milk- Everyone has their drink of choice for when you need to cool down, and mine is milk. I find it super refreshing and it has a little more going for it than just plain water. Plus less sugar than soda. Better for me and delicious, I really can't go wrong.

Converse shoes- I love the way they look and feel and just wearing a pair makes me feel so happy. I think that's largely because I associate them very strongly with Wizard Rock and all my Potter friends. So even thought I might be miles away from all those people, wearing converse makes me feel connected to them.

The Sims- I haven't played a lot of video games lately, there's been a lot of other things on my plate, but I will always love the Sims. My favorite part of most games is creating a character and writing their story (can you tell I like to write yet), and the Sims is basically only making a character and writing their story. It's everything I want and doesn't include all of the things, like shooting enemies, that I'm notoriously terrible at.

Doctor Who- I can't get enough of a ton of British TV shows, but Doctor Who tops that list for sure. From characters to plot to dialogue, I'm always impressed with each episode, and I find myself falling more and more in love with the show each time I watch. Who wouldn't want to learn more about a man who traveling through space and time in a police box.

Temporary tattoos- I do have a single real tattoo on my foot, and I'm considering a couple other ideas, but I will still use temporary tattoos. There's just something great about being able to cover myself in art that I know will come right off in a day. Plus there's the sparkle factor. There are TONS of glittery metallic temporary tattoos, but I have yet to ever see a sparkly actual tattoo.

Until tomorrow.

June 2nd

Gosh June is off to a very hectic start. Between Meg's birthday and preparing for Sara's wedding it's been nothing but busy in my world. That doesn't leave much time for raves or rants, but I still have 750 words to write so I suppose I'll have to buckle down and spit out something. I think I'll go back to the age old list of things I love and why I love them. I'll try to change it up from the last time, but I make no promises.

Nerdfighters- No matter how you meet it's guaranteed that the other person will be awesome. Even if they are a person you've never seen before, but they happen to be wearing a DFTBA records shirt or mention something nerdy, you just flash the gang sign and BOOM instant friends.

Dishwashers- I actually enjoy washing dishes by hand, but with the volume of dishes we've gone through lately in preparation for this wedding, I'm incredibly thankful to have a dishwasher. Life is just so much easier this way.

Artistic Friends- Nothing makes me happier than receiving something that someone else has drawn/painted/sculpted for me. I think it's because art is not a talent I possess and so I feel blessed to receive it from others.

Lizards- Tiny lizards are everywhere in Florida and they provide endless hours of entertainment. I spend a lot of time trying to catch one, but have yet to succeed, they're quick little buggers.

The phrase "Cheers, love"- Nothing, and I really mean nothing flatters me more than a British guy saying that in passing. I'm not sure if it's the phrase or the accent or a mix of the two, but it always makes me feel confident and attractive. This is ridiculous I'm aware, but knowing that doesn't change how I feel.

New friends- Meeting new people is one of my favorite activities, and turning them into friends is even better. It's just great to add to my list of local friends, especially if it adds to the list of people I actually hang out with.

Disney World- I know, I work for Universal, this is close to blasphemy, but it's true. There's just something almost magical about Disney World and no matter how many times I go there I find myself just as excited as the very first time I went.

Harry Potter Fanfiction- When I'm sitting around bored nothing gets my brain pumping like a well written fanfic. I'm a big fan of angsty plots and lots of hurt and comfort from the main characters. They are fun to read and they get my creativity flowing.

Taking Pictures- I'm not great at it, I wouldn't even claim to be adequate, but I do love taking pictures. This pictures aren't of anything in particular, just what I feel like photographing at the time.

Bad ABC Family movies- Technically it doesn't have to be an ABC Family movie, but they have the best bad movies. What makes these movies bad is usually an overly romanticized and predictable storyline filled with WAY too many convenient breaks. All of these things are what make them wonderful to watch and make fun of though.

Walking- Just taking a walk, especially when I don't actually have to go anywhere is very relaxing. It gives me a chance to just think about things or listen to music.

Slippers- Yes, it's regularly 90 degrees outside, yet when I'm inside the air conditioned apartment I always manage to be a little cold. Slippers keep my feet warm and keep me from getting sick.

Cake- Delicious, not at all nutritious, and one of my favorite foods. It seems like you really can't go wrong with cake.

Naps- I really haven't gotten enough sleep lately but naps have saved my sanity. It still blows my mind how a 30 minute nap can somehow leave me feeling more refreshed than a 6 or 7 hour night of sleep.

The Vlogbrothers- Aside from the creation of Nerdfighters I owe Hank and John Green credit for most of what I know about current events. I also owe them for a lot of knowledge I've lately gained about science and history. Plus they write good books, funny songs, and make ever interesting videos.

Dresses/Skirts- I used to hate wearing dresses (and skirts), but I've started to like them, especially shorter ones, as a nice way to stay cool in the summer. I still often struggle with the lack of pockets, but it's mostly just taught me to travel lighter.

Until tomorrow.

May 26th

Forget ranting, it's another week of raves. I'm not sure if it's because I'm so happy at my new Universal job, because I cleaned up my home and feel better, because I'm doing well on goals, or because the weather is warm and that makes me happy, but I'm just in WAY to good of a mood to waste time ranting about anything.

Of course part of the reason that I'm so happy is because I spent basically the entire day at Disney's Hollywood Studios celebrating Star Wars weekends 2012. I realize that today is about raving, but my entire experience was one big ball of complete awesomeness, so I'm just going to outline it for you.

I arrived at the entrance to that park around 6:30am, cause I like to torture myself, and because I wanted to get in line for autograph tickets to meet Ashley Eckstein. It bears mentioning that the park wasn't scheduled to open until 8am, but that didn't stop there from already being a rather large crowd outside the gates when I arrived. The ended up opening around 7:30, but despite waiting an hour I was never bored. There were plenty of people to talk to and the 501st along with Disney did an pretty incredible welcome before they opened the doors.

Once they let us in I ran around to ride the normal Hollywood Studios attractions, starting with Toy Story Midway Mania. That ride is notorious for having an epically long wait and the fastpasses usually run out by noon at the latest. I managed to ride three times in the early morning, which is pretty lucky. Then I rode the Rockin' Rollercoaster and the Tower of Terror. After that it was on to a couple of trips through Star Tours, and all that before 10:30am.

On my way between the rides I took some time to stop off and see some of the character meet & greet spots. I didn't wait in line for anyone, wasn't keen on getting my picture taken, and certainly didn't feel it was worth the wait. That said, I did repeatedly visit those stations all day to make sure I'd gotten video/pictures of all of the characters. I think I did a pretty decent job, but I'll have to go back to make sure. And, naturally, I made a stop at the Star Wars Weekend store (called the Darth Mall) to get the special event pin and a name tag that has my name on it in Aurebesh.

Aside from the meet & greet sessions I also had a chance to go see a couple of special shows. There was a special behind the scenes show about Clone Wars featuring three of the voice actors. I actually have barely watched Clone Wars, but despite that fact I found the show fascinating. It was really interesting to learn about how they film the cartoon and how the voice acting itself works. I've always been fascinated with the way that TV shows and movies are made, so this little trip behind the scenes was incredibly interesting to me. It also made me realize that I really do need to start watching the Clone Wars, so I'll be looking into that before I go to Celebration.

The other show I attended starred James Arnold Taylor (the voice of Obi-Wan in Clone Wars) and was basically a show about his journey and talents voice acting. He talked about how he started to get interested in voice acting watching cartoons when he was young and explained what it is about voices that makes them sound the way they do. He gave tips on becoming a voice actor and working on your own voices. The entire thing was very funny and inspiring. AND he did ALL the different voices in the show which added up to well over 100 different characters. He went through and entire web of celebrity/character impersonations, and I was completely in awe of what I heard come out of his mouth. All of them were SO spot on! I laughed incredibly hard during that show and jumped to my feet when the time for applause finally arrived. After all the voice actor in the tiny padded room with the microphone doesn't get a lot of chances at a standing ovation.

When I had some time to kill I saw the normal Hollywood Studios stunt car show, watched Muppet Vision 3D, tried out for the American Idol Experience (didn't make it) and played in the Honey I Shrunk the Kids set. I also went on a few of the rides again just for the heck of it. The last adventure of the evening was showing up for my autograph from Ashley Eckstein. She is the voice of Ahsoka Tano in the Clone Wars, but more importantly to me she runs Her Universe, which is a site that makes nerdy things for girls. I've always found her incredibly inspiring because she worked her way up and jumped on the opportunities that were presented to her. I was excited to meet her in person and when she turned out to be friendly and lovely I was even happier.

After that I was pretty much wiped out, and decided it was time to head home. I'd already done an incredible amount and felt very happy about the way I spent my day. Even more than the shows or character meets or the merch I bought, what made the day awesome was the people. I met and interacted with a TON of people today, whether I rode rides next to them or waited with them in line for shows or met them as I was running around Honey I Shrunk the kids. Everyone I met was lovely and I had a complete blast just smiling and enjoying life.

May the Force be with you, always.

May 19th

Usually today is reserved for raging and ranting but today I want rave about things that I love rather than rant about things that bother me. This is largely because I've been having a pretty awesome week and I don't have much to complain about. My life is blessed, so I decided to talk about that for a change. So in no particular order this will be a list of things that I happen to really like.

Apples- I eat an apple almost every single day. They're always delicious and sweet and they do a great job of waking you up in the morning, which is a bonus for someone who doesn't drink caffeine.

Dancing- I seriously dislike exercise, but when it comes to dancing I can trick my brain into thinking it's just fun. I get into a lot of the dance clubs at City Walk for free and I love to just go crazy and dance. I'm sure I look like a total idiot, but I'm always having a blast.

Orlando Summer Weather- I love the warmth, I love the sun, and I adore the sudden downpours. I sleep better when it rains, I love walking in the rain, and the rain here is always warm. Granted it's not the best thing for someone who wants to ride to work since apparently not even an apple a day can keep away the cold if you get sweaty and soaked in the rain repeatedly.

Hulu- Having the option to watch the shows I enjoy from any network whenever I feel like it is truly a blessing. With the way my life and schedule is watching shows when they air would be nearly impossible, but this way I don't miss anything.

The Internet- I could probably write an entire 750 words about how much I love the internet. For now we'll settle for just saying that I live the blessed life I have today largely due to the magic of the internet.

Ice Cream- It's not healthy, I eat way too much of it, but I don't care. There's something about the creaminess and the coldness and the incredible amount of sugar that make it completely delicious. I try and eat at least somewhat decently, but I'll never give up my ice cream.

My Nook- I can carry around 50 books in my purse, this is a BIG DEAL! It also saves me a lot of shelf space as I'm a bit of a book addict. I think I'm going to try to clean up some of my books. Maybe try and sell them to replace them with nook books. Wish there was a way to exchange them outright. My life would much easier to transport if ALL my books were digital.

Felix- You had to know that my adorable every excited kitten would make this list. Despite the annoying amount of hair he leaves behind and the tendency he has to want to sit in my lap the moment I need to stand up, I love him deeply. I'm continuously amazed and excited by the little things he does. I probably take too many pictures and film too much video, but I can't pass up a chance to document the cuteness.

My Wizards- The number of Harry Potter friends I have is quite large and I'm thankful for each and every one of them. They're an incredible group of seriously talented people and honestly some of the nicest people I've ever met. Even though a bunch of us only see each other once a year it always seems like no time has passed. Even if we haven't spoken in months as soon as we get together we're just as close as we always were.

Harry Potter- The books, the movies, the websites, the fanfiction, the music, and every aspect of the fandom. Every time I turn around there is something wonderful and new happening. The books have taught me so much about bravery and friendship and the value of an amazing mother. The fandom has taught me about kindness and brought me more friends than I ever thought I would have.

Allegra- This little allergy pill became nonprescription in March 2011, I started taking it in June, and have been largely symptom free ever since. I used to live my life with sniffles and an itchy nose and eyes, but things have been WAY better since Allegra. If you have allergies I at least recommend that you try it out.

There are more things that I love, but for today that's enough raving.
